Makangale Manta Reef Plot C
Location & Setting
Makangale is in the northwestern part of Pemba Island, Zanzibar.
Manta Reef / Manta Reef Lodge is located in that area: a remote, relatively undeveloped stretch, offering seclusion, pristine natural environments, and rich marine biodiversity.
What Makes It Special
Marine Biodiversity: The reef around Manta Reef Lodge is known to be one of the healthier coral reef systems on Pemba. Excellent snorkeling and diving are available.
Seclusion & Natural Beauty: It’s relatively remote. There are stretches of white sand beaches, dense forest, mangrove zones, and less commercial development compared to other beach‐resort heavy areas. This means quieter stays, more intimate connection with nature.
Accommodation / Experience: Manta Reef Lodge provides a range of lodging with a relaxed, wilderness feel. No large crowds, natural surroundings, good service.
Things to Know / What to Expect
- Tides, Water Conditions: As with many reef areas, visibility and swimming/diving/snorkeling quality depend a lot on tide and weather.
- Transport & Access: It’s more remote, so getting there may take more effort than popular Zanzibar beaches. Generally you'd fly or take a ferry to Pemba, then a road transfer / boat depending on exact location.
- Conservation / Environment: The area is part of the Pemba Channel Conservation Area (PECCA) which gives some marine protection and helps maintain reef health.
